![]() February 2, 2010 - News Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Loses Another Pirate
From Cinemablend.com: "It’s starting to look like just about the only pirate returning for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean is Captain Jack. We already knew that Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom wouldn’t be involved. Now it looks like even supporting characters are being left in dry dock. Mackenzie Crook has a recurring role in all of the first three Pirates films as the dastardly deckhand Ragetti. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, he’s the guy who gets a fork stuck in his eyeball and at one point he dresses up in women’s underwear and gets in a rowboat. Now you know him. The character of Ragetti has always been a lot of fun and while a smaller part of the Pirates movies he’s generally much beloved. Unfortunately Crook tells Contact Music that he probably won’t make it on the boat for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Says Crook of his involvement in the next film, “They haven't asked me. But actually I don't mind at all.” Actually he, like a lot of us, seems kind of ambivalent when it comes to making more of these movies. Crook explains, “I'm a fan of the first one especially and I think the trilogy we've made is great. I'd almost like them to leave it there.” It’s a safe bet that if Ragetti is out, so are most of the other minor characters we’re used to seeing populate the Pirates universe. Captain Jack Sparrow’s going where no Pirates of the Caribbean movie has gone before, and it looks like he’s going alone."
![]() January 26, 2010 - News Orlando Bloom Won't Return For 'Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides'
From mtv.com: "With "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" gearing up for production with director Rob Marshall at the helm and Johnny Depp once again assuming Captain Jack Sparrow's off-kilter persona, some have wondered whether or not the other stars of the franchise are on board for the fourth installment. During the Sundance Film Festival, MTV News caught up with actor Orlando Bloom and put that very question to him — but according to the actor, his days as Will Turner are over. "No, definitely not," he said when asked if he'd return for the fourth "Pirates" movie. "I think Will is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean." That's not to say that Bloom has hard feelings towards Disney or its popular franchise — his decision to leave the "Pirates" films was purely a matter of wanting to try new roles. "I had a great time making those movies," he said. "I just really wanted to do different things, but I think it's going to be great. Whatever Johnny does, I think it's fantastic." Part of Bloom's excitement as a spectator comes from his anticipation of Depp and Marshall's collaboration, something he described as an interesting match. "I think he's an amazing director," Bloom said of Marshall. "I think it will be a very interesting fit, because Johnny is musical anyway and I'm sure that something really beautiful will come out of it."
