Rob Marshall Directing Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Rob Marshall Directing Pirates of the Caribbean 4

From Moviesonline.ca:

"Ever since Gore Verbinski bowed out of directing Pirates of the Carribean 4 to work on his Bioshock movie we have all been wondering who would be tapped to direct. Wonder no more. According to Variety Chicago director Rob Marshall has been tapped to helm the franchise. Pirates of the Carribean has made DISNEY 2.6Billion and in tapping Rob Marshall they are clearly taking this one in a new direction.

Instead of Pirates, Verbinski is putting his time into some other of his own projects such as 'Bioshock', an adaptation of the bestselling videogame for Universal Pictures. John Logan (Sweeney Todd) has written the script and this is expected to be Verbinski's next job.

Verbinski's Blind Wink Prods. is also developing a bunch of other potential projects for him to direct, including 'Clue', a murder mystery based on the best-selling board game, and even a drama based upon a Wall Street Journal Article following the online fantasy role playing world and it's impact on the lives of the players. It sounds like Verbinski will be busy for a long time to come, so there's no way for Disney to even delay Pirates to get him on board.

"I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team," Verbinski said. "I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."

Currently, Verbinski is still working with Depp, actually. He's been directing a CG animated film for Paramount called 'Rango', and Depp is the voice of the lead. Again Logan wrote this script on an idea from Verbinski and has a March 2011 release date set currently."

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Happening In 2010!

Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 Happening In 2010!

Big news at the Comic Con 2009!

From aceshowbiz.com:

"We're going to shoot 'Pirates 4' in April and May of next year,' Disney's topper Oren Aviv provides updates on the latest installment for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced series at Comic Con 2009.

Spring 2010 is likely to be the date Disney going full gear into the filming of "Pirates of the Caribbean 4". In a chat with Coming Soon when attending San Diego Comic Con 2009, the mouse house's Head of Production Oren Aviv spilled the bean on the shooting schedule. "We're going to shoot 'Pirates 4' in April and May of next year," he said.

As for when the fourth film of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series will be dropped in theaters, Aviv revealed that Disney still plans to release it in 2011. He also stated his hope that this movie can become "the first of another trilogy", but still stressed the importance to scale back. "It's important to get the story right and it's important to me to scale it down, because we can't get bigger," he noted.

Mentioning that there is a lot of Captain Jack Sparrow's back story that hasn't been told, he added, "The movies have subsequently gotten bigger and bigger and very complicated and they were satisfying on so many levels obviously, but I want to kind of reboot the whole thing and bring it down to its core, its essence, just characters." Nonetheless, Aviv didn't confirm on whether or not the back story will be included.

Many details on "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" have been kept well under wraps. Words are, this fourth film would focus solely on Captain Jack Sparrow as he embarks on a journey to find the Fountain of Youth with Captain Barbossa, leaving Elizabeth and Will out of the adventure. It is also said that the unlikely duo will be forced to team up in order to "defeat some supernatural terror". Johnny Depp is to reprise his eccentric pirate character, Sparrow, in the film."

Johnny Depp: "Pirates Of The Caribbean 4" And "The Lone Ranger"

Johnny Depp: "Pirates Of The Caribbean 4" And "The Lone Ranger"

From Buzznet.com:

"Johnny Depp is at it again. Drunk, hot, hilarious and a pirate! Pirates Of The Carrbean 1, 2 and 3 were just not enough, not even for Depp. Who could ask for more? Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are milking the cash now for all it's worth...

Bruckheimer has said that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is a priority for Disney. Although Keira Knightley is not signed on to the movie, Johnny Depp is already signed on to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. Let's be honest, that's all we really care about.

This means that the love story between Knightley's and Bloom's characters will not be a factor. And seriously, how uncomfortable was that last scene in Pirates 3? It was unnecessary baggage.

While I have very low expectations for this movie, I must admit that I will probably see it. How could you not?

In other Johnny Depp news, the still-hot-at-age-forty-something is set to take on the role of Tonto in Disney's recreation of the classic radio and television series The Lone Ranger..."

New Pirates of the Caribbean game in development

New Pirates of the Caribbean game in development

From el33tonline.com:

"Disney Interactive Studios has announced that a new Pirates of the Caribbean game is in development at Propaganda Games. Titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned, the new action RPG will feature an original story set within the Pirates of the Caribbean universe made popular by Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow), Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) who starred in the multimillion dollar movies.

Set before the events of the films, Armada of the Damned sees players taking on the role of a pirate and embarking on various land and sea adventures. The character and story will be affected by the moral and character choices players make along the way. You can also expect to encounter mystical creatures and supernatural elements familiar to the Pirates of the Caribbean world that will affect the way the story unfolds.

Armada of the Damned is scheduled to be released in autumn 2010 for next-generation consoles and PC.

“Armada of the Damned is a dynamic action role-playing game that captures all of the franchise’s excitement, unpredictability and action while delving into narrative elements never before explored within this unique universe,” said Dan Tudge, vice president and general manager, Propaganda Games. “Our team’s collective experience with industry-leading RPGs and action titles provides a strong foundation for us to create and build a compelling action role-playing title."
