November 5, 2008 - News 'National Treasure 3' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' Being Written
From aceshowbiz.com: "Producer Jerry Bruckheimer sits down to discuss about the future plans for the third 'National Treasure' series and the fourth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise. With all the speculations circulating around the next installment of "National Treasure" and "Pirates of the Caribbean", producer Jerry Bruckheimer has come out to set things straight on the development of "National Treasure 3" and "Pirates of the Caribbean 4". On Tuesday, November 4, the filmmaker sat down with ComingSoon and a group of journalists to confirm that both of the proposed projects are currently being written. Speaking on the London set of "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time", Bruckheimer explained, "We've sat with the writers and we're working up the story and plotlines right now. They're in the process of finishing 'The Lone Ranger' so they're working on both of those simultaneously, same set of writers, Elliot and Rossio, who did all three 'Pirates' and worked on 'National Treasure (2)'." When asked further whether the new "Pirates" movie might get an IMAX treatment like "The Dark Knight", the 63-year-old responded quickly, "Absolutely. I'd love to do it, so let's just see if we can work it through the production schedule with everything else." Other than that, he revealed that the studio are leaning toward a 2012 release for the possible release date of the fourth "Pirates". Though detailed information about "Pirates 4" has remained tightly under wraps, the new project reportedly focuses solely on Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow as it follows the eccentric pirate in his quest to find the Fountain of Youth. In the new adventure, he is forced to team up with Captain Barbossa in order to "defeat some supernatural terror" and leaves out Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann..."

November 4, 2008 - News Russell Brand to be Jack Sparrow's brother?
From thesun.co.uk: "RUSSELL Brand is thrashing out a deal to appear in Pirates of The Caribbean 4 — as Captain Jack Sparrow’s brother. The deal to play Jonathan, younger brother of Johnny Depp’s character, could be worth £5million. It would catapult Brand, 33, into the Hollywood A-list less than a week after resigning from his Radio 2 show over the Andrew Sachs phone row involving him and Jonathan Ross. A source said: “There couldn’t be a role more perfectly suited. There’s a lot of Jack Sparrow in his mannerisms and behaviour. Depp’s accent isn’t a million miles away from Russell’s either. “Russell joining the Sparrows alongside Johnny and Keith Richards as their dad will complete the ultimate on-screen pirate family.” Brand, based in Los Angeles for the next few months working on new films and a Comedy Central special, has already formed a close relationship with Disney. In his first US theatre show since the Radio 2 scandal, he took a swipe at Sachs’s granddaughter, burlesque dancer and model Georgina Baillie — who was at the centre of the phone storm. He told the audience in West Hollywood: “Burlesque and erotica – I’ve been rethinking it of late.” "

![]() October 22, 2008 - News Zac Efron NOT in Pirates 4
Rumor Control from moviesblog.mtv.com: "This past week, a story that originated in “The National Enquirer” began picking up steam across the net, finding its way into British tabloids by the truckload: 21-year-old “High School Musical” star Zac Efron was set to star in “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” alongside Johnny Depp. It all made too much sense: Efron was a Disney star, “Pirates” was a Disney franchise. Efron was leaving “HSM,” Disney didn’t want him out of their grasp. And, I mean, if you can’t trust “The National Enquirer” and British tabloids, who could you trust? Speaking to MTV News, Efron was adamant that the talk of his voyaging through the Caribbean was nothing more than a rumor. “No one has talked to me about it,” the “High School Musical 3” star insisted. “I didn’t even know [about it].” That said, of course, the winking machine couldn’t help but smile at the possibility, telling us that just to be mentioned for a role was “awesome.” “I didn’t know anything about that,” he said. “[But] cross your fingers for me guys!” Although a foregone conclusion, a fourth “Pirates” was officially confirmed last month at a Disney presentation. Co-star Geoffrey Rush told MTV News last year that he thought it would follow Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa’s quest for the Fountain of Youth. What do you think “Pirates” superfans? Does the franchise need a fresh, young face like Efron for the Orlando Bloom factor? Would you support the “HSM” star getting cast? Sound off on your thoughts below."
